Painting is always a great thing especially when you need a place to exit from the real world. It’s relatively inexpensive and it’s expression at one of its purest forms. However, painting by yourself may not always do the trick. Maybe you need a venue to express yourself and help you gain inspiration from others. That’s why Wekiva Paint Out is the perfect event to really put yourself out there and get some fresh air while creating art. The great thing about this event is you’ll get a gorgeous setting and the proceeds actually go to the Wekiva Wilderness Trust and Keep Seminole Beautiful. You also have options to check out different things going on Wekiva Island, Wekiva River, and Wekiwa Springs State Park.
Wekiva Paint Out is from February 28, 2016 to March 5, 2016. There are a number of events through the week that will keep you completely enthralled into your art as well as interacting with the people around you. The events really start happening on Monday after everyone has arrived. There’s an gallery open with live music from 5pm to 9pm; the same goes for Tuesday as well. Things get a bit different on Wednesday with the gallery open from 12pm to 10pm, craft beer tasting from 7pm to 8pm (complimentary, of course). By registering via email, the first 25 people can get a free beer or wine ticket to be used throughout the event week.
Saturday is where things get serious on the last day. There are two main events that happen on March 5, 2016. On Wekiva Island, you can register for the Quick Draw event happening from 11:30am to 2pm. Here you can compete for with professional plein artists and win a cash prize depending on the number of entries. All registrants will receive a free t-shirt. The rules are as follows: everyone who plans to participate needs to be at the dockside around 11:30am and the competition actually starts at noon. You have 2 hours to create your piece and the judges will critique after the time is over. They will spend about 30 mins critiquing your work and they will announce a winner at 3:30pm. Tickets to Quick Draw are on sale for $25.
The final event on Saturday is the PaintOut Gala from 7pm-11pm. The tickets are on sale for $30. Come in looking a bit business casual on this stellar night. There’s a great art auction for different unsold artwork during the week. Also, there’s a special menu from Graffiti Junktion, which includes special food and drink items. Not to mention, there’s a wine tasting available as well for your convenience. If you want to enjoy a bit of heat during the evening, there’s a bonfire out there that will keep you warm when the temperature goes down. With all the different artists, events, and great chemistry in tow, you’ll get a unique week experience you’ll remember for years to come.
