How I’d choose between them
Sweetwater Park is my starting point for solo hitting because the city specifically lists a practice tennis wall. Bring a racket and balls, and check access before heading over. Its published dawn-to-10pm park hours also give you room to plan an early or evening session.
Round Lake Park has the same dawn-to-10pm park schedule, plus restrooms and lighted tennis courts. I’d consider it for a match with a friend, especially if East Broadway is convenient for both of you. Ask about existing bookings and when the lights operate before settling on an evening time.
Riverside Park has four lighted tennis courts and is the location named on the city’s tennis lesson page. Call 407-971-5575 about court access or a regular weekly slot. The city’s listed facility hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 8pm; Saturday, 9am to 5pm; and Sunday closed. Confirm the tennis court schedule with staff rather than using the separate pool or skate park hours.
Booking a court: request first, then confirm
Booking a tennis court with the city isn’t an instant online reservation. The official Facility Booking Inquiry form is a request only. Select Riverside Tennis Courts, Round Lake Park or Sweetwater Park as appropriate, and specify tennis with your preferred date and time. The city asks for requests at least seven days before the date, subject to availability, and submitting the form does not reserve a court.
Securing the date requires a rental agreement and signed management approval. The city says deposits and full payment are required upon approval; ask staff to explain the payment requirements for your booking. For the formal rental conversation, call 407-971-5565. For general Riverside questions about whether the tennis courts are open during the published facility hours, call 407-971-5575.
If you’re not booking a weekly block, call before you travel and ask what currently applies: court-specific access, any booked blocks that day, any current walk-up fee, and whether lights are switched off. Sweetwater doesn’t appear in the named recurring tennis fee rows, so if that park is your destination, ask for its current quote separately.
What a recurring weekly court actually costs
The official FY 2026-27 fee schedule lists these recurring one-court tennis rates.
Those numbers are term totals, not day passes, casual drop-in prices, or hourly rates. The same resident and non-resident amounts apply, and Riverside’s rows carry the non-senior center hours condition. Confirm your specific weekly slot and the contract requirements with city staff.
| Weekly time | Term | One court Round Lake Park | One court Riverside Park |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 hours/week | 6 months | $300 | $300 |
| 4 hours/week | 6 months | $550 | $550 |
| 2 hours/week | 12 months | $550 | $550 |
| 4 hours/week | 12 months | $1,000 | $1,000 |
Lessons and coaching
The City of Oviedo’s Athletics page lists tennis lessons at Riverside Park, but as of October 20, 2026 it says “new instructor coming soon” with no class dates, ages, or prices posted. Call Riverside at 407-971-5575 about the next group or private lesson schedule, and keep checking the city’s Athletics page.
If you’d rather search for a private coach now, PlayYourCourt is one marketplace where instructors list Oviedo-area lessons. Before you book, ask exactly which Oviedo court the coach will use, who confirms permission or books that court, what the total coaching plus court fees will be, and whether you need to bring your own equipment. A marketplace listing doesn’t grant city court access, so get those answers before paying.
A quick first-session checklist
Before heading out:
- Racket, balls, and water.
- A specific park and time confirmed against the city listing.
- A partner if you’re heading to Round Lake or Riverside for normal play; Sweetwater works solo because of the practice wall.
- A city confirmation for any weekly block, or a phone answer on walk-up access if you’re not booking.
Weather and lightning alerts
The City of Oviedo lists all three parks on its weather updates page with Thor Guard lightning prediction. One 15-second warning blast and a flashing strobe mean stop play and move to safe shelter. Three short 5-second blasts with the strobe off mean all-clear to resume. Wait for both parts of the all-clear before returning to play.
What to do next
Pick the park that matches your need, then call the right city number before you commit to a weekly match. For a wider afternoon plan, the parks and trails guide helps pair a court with the rest of an outing. If you’re mixing tennis and pickleball, the pickleball courts guide covers the other sport. For a weekly match, have your preferred park, day and two-hour or four-hour block ready when you contact the city.
